Greg,
I have been a bit frustrated with parts supply on another resto project, so being as impatient as I am, I thought I would have a play with the ‘R’.
It didn’t take much to get it running, and I have done my best in fixing the crapped out fibreglass work.
So the new plan is to ride it around, and get to know it, before tearing down for a full resto.
Last friday I got the ‘R’ registered on historical plates, and took her for her maiden ‘shakedown’ run out to West Head. This run proved I have plenty of ‘fettling’ to do to turn this into a civilised road bike!
In registering it, I discover it has never been registered before – purely a track/race bike – even though carrying a full AU compliance plate.
So I am off to play with jetting, timing and cam issues – as I would describe it as having nothing down low, then a ‘light switch’ power delivery as the front wheel heads for the sky!

Im now envious, wish I had purchased it when I saw it for sale online.JohnS
August 9, 2015 at 2:48 pm #12503AnonymousInactiveThe registration for my imported RC dropped through my letter box on Friday, so yesterday was making up a number plate, and today was my first proper ride on it. What can I say, I’m completely blown away with it. The difference between the R and my 1100F is enormous. If I didn’t know better I wouldnt believe these 2 bikes share the same basic DNA. Suffice to say I enjoyed today very much and am now lookin forward to getting some serious miles in on the R.

November 10, 2015 at 12:07 pm #12634SteveBMembertoday I have fitted a set set of braided brake hoses to my RB , they are all black in ” racing” style ,ie two long ones from the front master cylinder to each caliper and missing out the junction box thing. Next job bleed them,
they were £60 for the full set from Wezmoto inc postage.
stevebDecember 9, 2015 at 10:24 am #12682SteveBMemberToday I have fitted Wouts clutch rubber kit and removed carbs ready for ultrasonic cleaning
December 11, 2015 at 2:56 pm #12687SteveBMemberI have put clutch back together and measured springs , they are at bottom end of limit, So I have decided to replace them.
I had already bought some EBC ( kit CSK046) springs for my RD , but they are too long.
I think I need the ones from the CB900F which are 35mm long ( kit CSK167 ).
Has anybody got any recomendations before I buy the shorter 900 set ?
thanks
steveDecember 11, 2015 at 4:20 pm #12683AnonymousInactiveHi Steve
The CB1100RD ones are the same as the CB1100F 22401 MG5 670, and they are longer as the RD and 1100f use a different cover and clutch lifter plate
The RB/RC use part # 22401 MA3 000, The CB900F use 22401 422 000 which i suspect are the same length but weaker
I recently bought a set of Vesrah springs (Vesrah part #SK-140) from ebay Germany which have the 22401 MA3 000 part number, there are a few sellers on ebay Germany who sell R clutch springs
The Vesrah springs measure 36mm
The set i bought were just over £12 including postage

December 11, 2015 at 7:18 pm #12688AnonymousInactiveHi Steve.
I rebuilt my RC clutch a few months ago and was lucky to get a set of genuine Honda springs from DSS before they became unavailable. But while researching it I did see that EBC do a clutch spring set specifically for the RB/C, part number CSK009.
they seem to be about the same price Keith paid for the Vesrah springs.I don’t think the the 900 springs you mention will be much good for very long in an R.
December 11, 2015 at 10:49 pm #12690SteveBMemberthanks Keith and Stuart
i have just had a quick look on ebay and found EBC CSK009 , http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371107322122?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
But didnt find the vesrah ones. I will have another look tommorow.
stevebDecember 12, 2015 at 10:47 am #12693SteveBMemberIt seems slightly strange to me that the springs that go in my 115 ish BHP CB1100RB are the same ones that go in a 12BHP 125 ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-MBX-125-FE-84-86-EBC-CSK009-Clutch-Spring-Kit-/140639647040?hash=item20bec6b540:m:mStci7WVa1IPsSjSk-8OFlA

Here is a link to EBC website fitment guide
Shows CSK009, does seem strange a MBX is the same, maybe it only uses 3 springs or so

December 12, 2015 at 11:20 pm #12695Trevor HughesKeymasterSteve, while at Stafford I was talking to someone (I think it was SteveD) who had fitted some HD clutch springs in their R and then found the clutch too heavy for road use. Whoever it was had to remove half of the HD springs before the clutch became comfortable to use on the road.
December 13, 2015 at 12:13 pm #12696AnonymousInactiveMaybe the EBC heavy duty (10>15% stronger) spring kit for the CB900 would be about the equivalent rate as the genuine Honda springs for the 1100R?
Without knowing the original spring rates it would have to be a case of trial and error.December 13, 2015 at 3:09 pm #12698SteveBMemberI couldnt find any Vesrah springs , so i have ordered the EBC csk 009 set.
I will report back when they are fitted and the bike is back on the road.
