A strange post, no doubt, but I am trying to gauge the interest in reproducing the 1100R C/D seat unit in aluminium. Yes, you read it right.
I’ve been speaking to a specialist near to me who has a reputation as one of the finest fabricators in Europe.
The thinking behind aluminium is the solidity compared to the glass unit that came as standard, plus they’re not very heavy of course.
It’s just a tentative enquiry at the moment, no commitment in any way. I’d front the development costs but it was more a case of looking at the potential units that might be required.
Anyhow, let me have your thoughts when you get the chance.

my thoughts are to make something like that would take a very skilled craftsman hours and hours,
It would be beautiful to behold
but I suspect it would be too expensive to be viable and besides some owners can be quite anal about non standard parts.

I’m with Steve. This would be a very nice thing on a special but to paint such a work of art would be a shame. However if you are aware of a skilled aluminium fabricator I have a badly damaged fuel tank I would like repaired do you think this guy may be interested ?

They also do Aluminum
As the Tanks were chromed after repair the steel tanks had to have no marks in when we got them back, they used to do an excellent job
C W Classics are in Essex http://www.cwclassics.co.uk

November 10, 2014 at 9:04 pm #12246Glenn KirkhamKeymasterHi Andy – I have a double RB seat unit hanging in my garage – was on my RB when I bought it – looks fine but it needs painting again now – only issue I see with it is that the lower section that screws on either side of the battery at the bottom needs a threaded spacer to link to. I’m guessing that the shape from behind the tank to the lower mounting point was too ‘steep’ for it to be metal bashed to the right spot.
If anyone wants it then let me know..
Cheers.. Glenn
